Pain In Chest, Back, Past History Of Shingles. Opposed Giving Morphine. Atropine Can Be Given?
I am trying to recall the medication that the hospital doctor proposed to give to my mother if needed for pain (undiagnosed chest & back pain - heart test OK, no pneumonia, past history of shingles) when we opposed giving her morphine as she is elderly and morphine as a detrimental effect on her mental faculties. I believe is was atropine - does this sound correct? The doctor does not wish to give tylenol or ibeprophen type drugs due to her kidney & liver functions (both high).

No it wasn't atropine as it can't relieve pain. It will either be carbamezepine which us commonly given for neuralgia due to shingles or pregabalin that will work for neuropathic pain
Carbamezepine in 100 mg daily
Pregabalin 75mg twice daily
Carbamezepine in 100 mg daily
Pregabalin 75mg twice daily
