Occular Myositis, Swelling Of Eye Muscles. Om Cordizon, Hempf. Should She See A Specialist?

Hello Drs;
My daughter has what the German doctors call Ocular myositis, swelling of the eye muscles. She has been fighting against this problem now sinceFebuary 2001. The first 7 years, she took cordizon, but it didn't really help. After these 7 years we went to the head Doctor at the University Hospital in Mainz, for eyes and she told us either to take drugs, such as perscribed Hempf to lessen the pain or she should get pregnant and maybe the problem would go away.
She now has a son who was born in Nov. 2009 but the problem hasn't gone away. After the first 7 years her pain wasn't so dramatic as in the first 7 years. Now since yesterday the pain and muscle swelling is so extéme that she can hardly see or focus on anything. SHe is going back into the hospital tomorrow and will have to go thru all these test again. I was wondering if it would feasable that she should go somewhere else so that she can get the help she needs. Maybe you know a specialist here in Germany for her???????

Ocular myositis is difficult to treat / control. However there can be serious side effects of long term use of seroids. You must ask your doctors if they can or are already using steroid sparing, immunomodulating drugs. These cytotoxic drugs such as methotrexate themselves have side effects but can be useful if due care and good supervision is done. I hope that this answer gives a you a fresh direction to into and make sure that your daughter is receiving the right treatment.
