Hi i am a 56 yr old woman and for the past 2 wks my skin has been very itchy i dont have a rash and it is itchy all over i am going to the doc 2morrow to get my thyroid checked can this be related ?
Hi!kickassgranny14,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic forum,
At 56 yrs of age with itching all over the body with no skin lesions ,the most probable cause is dry skin, also called senile xerosis .Thyroid is associated with itching as it can cause diffuse dryness of body...and dryness can cause itching. So get a thyroid done if there are other symptoms also like you are either loosing wt or gaining wt...or if you see tremors in your hand..or any swelling of the body..increased heart beat..etc...For treatment of your problem start using a good moisturizer all over the body 3-4 time a day.The best time to apply a moisturizer is just after bath on wet skin.Along with this you can take cetrizine (10mg) daily at bed time.At this age you should also rule out other rare causes of itching like renal(kidney) problem and hepatic (liver) problem.Consult a dermatologist for this.
take care,
