MRI Done. Should I See A Neurologist?

HI Sir,

I am having Neck and shoulder back pain on Left side. The pain is from last 3 weeks. I have consulted with orthopedic doctor. We have x-Ray followed by MRI.

My MRI report shows:-

c5-c6 intervertebral disc shows diffuse posterior bulge with posterocentral and left paracentral protrusion indenting thecal sac and anterior surface of more on left side.

C6-C7 intervertebral disc shows annual tear with posterocentral and left paracentral protrusion compressing left half of cord and left existing nerve root at same level

Doctor suggested to take rest completely or take traction and physiotherapy. But Physiotherapy can not be taken unless paining stop.

Can you please suggest on this? Do we need to see neurologist?

Thanks.

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

According to reports your have degenerative disc prolapse of spine

1.There is diffuse posterior bulge at C5-C6 inter vertebral disc level with postero central and left para central protrusion indenting thecal sac and anterior surface of more on left side.

2.At C6-7 level there is annular tear with postero central and left para central protrusion compressing left half of cord and left existing nerve root at same level

Your doctor has given the right suggestions. In acute stage you need complete bed rest. After resolution of pain, physiotherapy should be started.
You should consult neuro surgeon.

Treatment for pain includes physiotherapy or surgical.
Effectiveness of both modalities are same. So,physiotherpay should be tried first. It causes strengthening of Para spinal muscles and it prevents further changes.
Surgery should be the last option.
There are also medicines available for pain relief.
Get well soon.

Take Care
