Lump Below Knee Cap, Painful. Sugesstions

I have significant swelling just below my kneecap. Thought it may be patella tendinitis but it's almost a chicken-egg sized lump now. There's a dull ache sensation unless I put pressure on the spot or get on my knees. Then it's an extremely painful shooting pain. Otherwise no pain. Am elevating with ice and slight compress

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
A painful lump below the knee cap could be due to an inflamed bursa or a soft tissue swelling after an injury to the area. An MRI scan of the knee will help in proper diagnosis.
