Lower Back And Knee Pain. Burning And Numbness. What Is MRI Conclusion?
Hello, I have pain in my mid-lower back. It s burning, numbing & throbbing at times. This pain travels down my right knee , leg & ankle. MRI for cervical w/out contrast reports: there is posterocentral annular bulge of disc which does not touch or efface the cord or exiting nerve roots - this is in C3-4 & C 5-6 can you explain this to me.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query
I guess you are diagnosed with cervical disc herniation.Your symptoms are likely to be due to nerve root compression at C3-4 & C5-6 level due to disc protrusion.
There are several treatment modalities with medicines, physiotherapy and with injections in the back called epidural injections and root/facet blocks.
If you dont get better with these treatment ,I suggest you undergo surgery, by which the nerves are decompressed by removing the protruded disc (discectomy), which would significantly improve your symptoms
I hope this is helpful to you.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.
Dr Saurabh Gupta.
