Low Platelet Count Post A Bout Of Stomach Poisoning. Normal?

? P Hi Last week I went to an urgent care facility for a particularly painful sudden bout of stomach flu or food poisoning . Today I learned that my lab results came back and that my platelet count is only 132. I ve already scheduled an appointment with my doctor but I just wanted to know if my 24 hour stomach problem could have contributed to the low count. I m 47, in good health, or at least I hope I am.

Food poisoning does not alter the platelet count. However flu or any febrile illness can cause fall in the platelet. You need to be careful and be under the observation of your doctor. IF it falls below a certain level, you may need transfusions.
