Is There Any Danger To Be In Sugar Level At 256?

I am a type 2 diabetic. I've been keeping my blood sugars below 120 very consistently. However, I must've eaten something today that sent my sugars soaring. They were at 256. As soon as I saw that, I didn't hesitate one second to do my workout, and adding extra workouts to the normal routine. In that one workout, I managed to get my sugars back down to 180. Then, I took my medicine with 2 tsp of apple cider vinegar in a 40 oz glass of water.

Bottom line question: I plan to get my sugars back down within the next 24 hours. Is that a short enough time of high blood sugar to prevent any damage?

Forgive me for apparently eating something bad... I try to honor the research and expertise of those in the medical field by taking my condition very seriously.

Sincerely,
KB

dear sir i understand your concern.yes 250 is a bad control of diabetes which may not show any change now but in a long run it will lead to complications like diabetic neuropathy, nephropathy and retinopathy. i suggest you to check your hba1c and make sure that its below 7%.....regards

General & Family Physician Dr. Pavan Kumar Gupta's  Response
Hello,
Not much damage is going to occur to your body if blood sugar level rises for short time.
The most important part is to keep a proper management of your blood sugar levels.
This can be achieved judiciously by regular monitoring of your blood sugar levels, taking regular medications, observing proper dietary control and doing regular aerobic exercises.
Along with blood sugar levels, you must keep your lipid profile in perfect check and also keep your blood pressure in normal range ( below 120/80 ).
Thanks
