Is There An Alternative Drug To Lipofen To Lower Triglycerides ?

I am taking lovastatin 20 & Lipofen to lower to lower tryglicrides(?). Lipofen does not have a generic and is an expensive drug. Is there an alternate drug that can be used. Tryglicrides(?) when prescribed were 531 and now down below 200 over the last 6 months.
Will consult with cardiologist with results if any after the new year.

Hello,
I had gone through your problem and understand your concern very well.

First of all, i want to know few things from your side like your age, your sugar level status, whether you are taking any other drugs or not, your HDL and LDL cholesterol levels, etc.

Its good that your TG level is lowered to almost normal. Lipofen contains finofibrates, which lowers cholesterol and TG both. But remember, drugs alone will never help you to reduce the risk of coronary artery disease. For that you need few life style modifications like eat healthy diet, limit the intake of sugar and salt,do regular exercise and walking, do regular meditation, avoid alcohol and smoking, take omega 3 fatty acids more, etc.

Also want to tell you that there is not alternative to finofibrate, but you can take Lovaza, which contains omega 3 and its an approved drug to lower TGs. I would also request you to check your blood sugar, BP, creatinine and ECG.

Hope this answers your question and let me know directly if you have any further relevant queries,i will be happy to guide you in right direction.
