Is There A Cholesterol Drug That Would Have Fewer Side Effects?

Thank you for your time. First I was on Lipitor for several years which caused a lot of memory concerns, when I started having muscle pain in my shoulders and arms my Doctor decided to take me off cholesterol for 3 months to see how if my symptoms improved, which they did, after a short time my memory was better and the pain in my shoulders and arms stopped. My blood work came back 256 it was 166 on Lipitor. On 1/13/2014 I started on Pravastatin, the muscle pain in my shoulders and arms has already started hurting again mad I feel my memory is becoming an issue again also I don t know if it s related my hot flashes have become worse lately. Is there a cholesterol drug that would have fewer side effects. Sorry this is so long. Thank you again for your time

Hi,

Pravastatin is a statin drug similar to Lipitor. That's why you are having hurting feeling again. So, you should report such complains to your doctor to change therapy.

You can discuss with your doctor if the lifestyle and diet changes will help improve your lipid profile. Otherwise, you can start other drug from other groups including
- fenofibrate (Tricor)
- bile acid sequestrants (Cholestid, Questran)
- Niacin (Niaspan) for which you should be aware of flushing

Hope it was of help!
