Is There A Alternative Medication For Sertraline Causing Overactive Bladder?

My wife suffered a hemragic stroke 6 years ago. She had uncontrolable fits of crying. she has been taking Sertraline and it controls the crying but it has the side effect of overactive bladder. Is there something else she can be taking that may not have that side effect?

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.

Yes, there are various possible alternatives such as Vesicare, Mlyrbetriq, or Oxybutnim ER. Vesicare may have some more pronounced side effects such as headache, dry cough but this is not commonly seen. Also, these 2 act differently, Vesicare exerts it's activity during elimination and eases the muscle contractions and Myrbetriq works at the beginning of the "fill cycle" and allows for more urine to enter, easily, without an Immediate urge to "go."

So, usually patients try several medications till the appropriate one is found. So, I'd suggest to try with Myrbetriq first, most people are satisfied with it and it is most similar to Toviaz.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
