Is Swollen Ankle After Being Off Wellbutrin Normal?

my ankles have swollen. i have never had this problem. it started yesterday. swelling reduced minutely overnight. but that even that small amount has returned. The only think different in my life is, i quit taking Wellbutrin SR.. i was on it for about a month. i tapered off as directed. i was taking 1 pill daily, then half pill for five days, then quarter of pill for five days. Sunday was my last dose. now my ankles are swollen. is it common for this to happen after quitting Wellbutrin? Will it go away? is it not related, maybe another problem?

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Weaning off wellbutrin is a gradual process especially when you take high doses. What you did was just ok to get off it with minimal side effects. However, many people report side effects when off this drug.Fluid retention happens to be a side effect and may manifest through swollen ankles. However, eliminating other causes of swollen ankle will be good.
Swollen ankles could also be caused by a number of medical conditions some of which are: renal, heart and liver pathologies.
I will suggest you observe for some time days, take a diuretic like furosemide and elevate legs while lying and limit fluid intake. If symptom persist, you see your Doctor to investigate your heart, liver and kidneys.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
