Is Smoking Marijuana Advisable During Corneal Ulcer Treatment?

i have a corneal ulcer in my right eye as of last week and have been on the antiobiotics since then, just started talking the steroid today. i smoke weed due to a slipped disc in my lower back from a year ago for yhe irriation/pain.. is it ok to continue, or should i stop while my eyes are in the process of healing?

Hello,

Although most of the studies regarding marijuana and the human eye are related to glaucoma and not to the cornea, it is a well-known fact that smoking tobacco interferes with the process of wound healing of the cornea. It has been proven that even second-hand smoke can make it harder for the layers of the cornea to return to a healthy state. In cases where there's a medical reason behind the use of marijuana, and not purely recreational, my suggestion is be to discontinue smoking while the cornea finishes to heal, and then get approval from your treating Ophthalmologist to resume smoking in the dose given.
