Is Pins And Needles In Ear, A Side Effect Of Effexor Pills?

i have been having a pins and needles feeling on the top of my right ear for about 6 months now. I am also on Effexor, when I bring it up to my doctor that i think it may be a side effect they don t seem to concerned. It is driving me nuts, what do you suggest?

Hi,

You are already taking Venlafaxine, sold under the brand name Effexor. It is an anti-depressant medication. It is used to treat major depressive disorder, generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social phobia. It may also be used for chronic pain. In fact it might be helping to reduce your sensation of pins and needles in ear as these are suggestive of nerve origin.

This is the reason for which your treating doctor is not interested in changing the medicine. Take an opinion of ENT surgeon as on ENT examination and Endoscopy and relevant investigations can help to find a cause like granuloma which can be removed surgically. Trial with oral steroids may help and discuss with your doctor.
