Is It To Take Torleva And Tegrital Together For Epilepsy?

I am having epilepsy since last 18 years. I am on tegrital 400CR twice daily. The last attack was on 21.03.2014. I consulted with my nurologist. He has increased dose of same medicine to thrice daily and added Torleva 500 twice daily. I would like to mention here that, last year there was attack twice and in 2012 it was once. There was no attack from 2008 to 2012. I have never taken Torleva before. What is the basic difference between the above two medicines. should I take both the medicines simultaneously. I am female 42 .

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and would like to reassure you that your current medications are fine.

Tegrital (carbamazepine) and torleva (levetiracetam) are both good anti-epileptic drugs and are safe.

Tegrital is mainly used for partial seizures and levetiracetam can be used for both partial and generalized seizures.

It is safe to take both tegrital and torleva together.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.

Best wishes,
