Is It Ok To Workout While On Betablockers?

I have had atrial fibrillation on three occasions and been hospitalised by them, the first when I was thirty two, the sescond when I was thirty fiva and the last a fornight ago i am forty four. I have never told the doctors before but i suffer with a lot of wind on the left side of my chest. Is this the cause of the irregular heart beat.

Also I have been put on Beta Blockers and asprin until I can have an echocardiogram, which is going to take eight to twelve weeks. Would it be ok for me to return to the gym whilst on the beta blockers or should i wait until the scan.

Hi,
I have read your query & found your concern logical.
The problems of winds on left side of chest seems to be due to ill digestion& gas formation in stomach.This can not cause irregular heart beats, but distended abdomen does give feeling of fast heart beats.
You need ECG/ BP records& other relevant investigations for confirming atrial fibrillation.At the same time winds are troubling you . You have been given betablockers & aspirine to control heart rate & avoid thrombus formation.
In this senario I would advice you to avoid stressful workoutsin gym,but a walk with medium pace for 15 minutes after each major feeding, ( in vicinity of house/ accompanied by some one)can be allowed till your ECG.
Also you can tryfew other things to reduce gases.-
-Eat less carbohydrates(gas forming food-rice,potato,sago),
- have plenty of firers in diet.( vegetables/fruits/salads)
-drink lot of fresh water
- don't sleep immediately after food.Avoid over eating,late night eating;
- Digestive enzyme supplements help.
Thanks.
