Is It Normal To Have Bloated Distended Stomach Along With Stomach Virus?
Is it normal to have a bloated distended stomach accompany the stomach virus? I haven t really noticed any websites listing that as one of the symptoms of the virus and all three doctors I ve seen in the past three days keep insisting I have the stomach virus and have seemed to rule everything else out.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of stomach flu and want to know whether it can cause bloating. Certainly yes, Bloating is due to gas which is produced in large quantity due to disturbed bacterial flora whether the cause is bacterial or virus or otherwise. Hence I would advise you the following: First of all, send the sample of stool for tests as this will give the clue for the possible cause. If it shows infection, get a proper antibiotic, probiotic cover. Add on banana, yogurt/curds, activated charcoal. Watch for dehydration and electrolyte imbalance and get corrected if present. You would be fine.
