Is It Normal For A Bruising To Turn Green In Course Of Time?
My husband fell on the ice while skating and although he developed one wicked bruise and this has now gone green (ie healing) above this on his hip there is a large swelling that has not reduced in the two weeks since the incident happened. It is not at all painful for him and feels like a water/muscle sac . Should he seek a doctor?

Hello, Thanks for your query. ome bruises are green because of the damage to the red compound in red blood cells, known as hemoglobin. A new bruise is usually red or purple. A bruise that is healing is green because the hemoglobin is breaking down and turning into biliverdin. That breaks down into bilirubin, which is yellow. After that the bruise is healed. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
