Is Glandular Fever Indication Of Hypnagogic Hallucinations?
Hello. I have a 9 year old daughter who has been experiencing what I believe to be hypnogogic hallucinations most nights of the week for about a year now. The onset followed a bad case of glandular fever. She is an otherwise happy little girl, doing well in school. She is very tired following physical activity (such as dancing) and takes herself off for naps of 30 -60 mins at least once a day. One GP has stated that she will grow out of this, another opinion is that this requires further investigation (sleep study). Would appreciate your thoughts about this. Lea73
I agree that with the additional history of feeling very tired following activities and even having to catnap she should be looked at for possible other problems which range from NOTHING to narcolepsy or even seizure disorder. Nor is there any relationship between what you describe or glandular fever just to clarify that point. I don't know where you live but if you are in an area where pediatric neurology services are available or at least a sleep specialist is available then, I would recommend she be seen by one of them...preferably the neurologist first and then, the sleep specialist. Also, if she were my patient I would get a standard 20 minute EEG recording and do a detailed history looking for elements of a seizure disorder (temporal lobe, partial complex type). Please rate this interaction with a high number of stars. If you would like to speak in more detail about your daughter's case or if you do not have a pediatric neurology service immediately available to you feel free to write additional questions or concerns to me at: www.bit.ly/drdariushsaghafi
