Is Endoscopy Required If Suffering From Vomiting?

Hi,
I am 27yrs of female a mother of 2.10yrs old girl baby. I was 52kg before pregnancy and now 57kg. Past 3 weeks I was having lightheadness , with feeling of vomiting and went to general physician who said it is acidity and asked me to avoid, spicy food, fatty oily foods, fried foods, milk products etc I was following and taking his medicine. I was feeling better, but my family doctor asked me to consult with a gastro doctor . I went last saturday to meet a gastro doctor who checked my stomach and overall body, said to take happy medicine and mucaine gel for 2 weeks for this acid reflux and if it is not reduced, then need to do endoscopy. I am really worried hearing this. Now am feeling better since saturday after having medicines and also good diet food. What is endoscopy? DO I need to go to the doctor after 2 weeks for doing the test? Does endoscopy suggest the exact problem and relive from this irritations forever.
Now am taking morning emtpy stomach tender coconut. Yesterday night I was feeling like vomiting and was struggling for burping. But once I took a walk , I was burping and was fine. Even then I felt slight short of breath for 5 minutes. I precisely don;t know whether that is shortness or my normal breath.

During these times I feel as if I was to pass motion and Once am done I will be fine. It wont be loose motion or constipated. Please suggest me help. I am now in India but moving to the UK. I want to live happily and don;t want to have any diseases or irriations. Please advice me what should I do? I don't want to do endoscopy after hearing its process. Will I be ok if I eat good food with good diet?Is this a very big disease?

Thanks

Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post is attributed to Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
The acid reflux is caused due to relaxation of the sphincter at the lower part of esophagus.
Endoscopy is a procedure in which a small camera is put inside mouth to view the esophagus and ascertain the degree of laxity of sphincter.
There is no need to worry, it is a very simple procedure.

Medical management consists of intake of Proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole (which prevent acid formation in stomach)+ Domperidone preparations (strengthens the sphincter & prevents reflux)

In addition you need to follow certain diet & lifestyle measures, such as:
1. Dietary modification- avoid consuming irritating substances such as acidic & rich foods, caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol.
2. Lifestyle modification- like weight reduction, sleeping on the left side, or with upper body raised.

If symptoms still persist, it will be better to consult your treating Doctor/ Gastroenterologist.

Wishing a good health.
Take care.
