Is IV Iron Only Solution For IDA Due To Menses?

Hello

I have been DX w/Iron Def Anemia. I am 43 yo. Female. I had two very bad experiences with IV Iron last August. I have been on oral iron now since Septmber of 2010. I recently had another round of bloodwork done, and have my results. My Heme Dr. seems to be overly aggressive to me suggesting IV Iron all the time. I am wondering if I shared my lab results with you, that you could tell me whether or not, in your expert opinion, I would need IV Iron.

It has been determined I have IDA due to Menses, and the use of Librax for IBS.

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
You have iron deficiency anemia due to excessive blood loss in menses. You should consult gynecologist for that. As far as iron treatment is concern, it depends on your hemoglobin, ferritine level and serum iron level. Oral iron takes more time then intravenous iron. But if you are not ok with intravenous iron then you can go for oral iron and in emergency you can go with blood transfusion. Consult your doctor and plan accordingly.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
