Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of spine and sacroiliac joints of unknown cause.progressive fusion of spine occurs in many pts and can't be prevented or predicted.Physical therapy emphasizing extension exercises and posture is recommended to minimize late poetical defects and respiratory compromise.Indomethacin is used for symptomatic relief.Many patients develop osteoporosis and are at risk of spinal fractures.Generally this problem is self limited although glaucoma and blindness are unusual secondary complications.Good luck.
