Is 80 Mg Of Lipitor Safe For High Cholesterol Treatment?

I just went to my cardiologist and he said my cholesterol was 286. He put me on 80 mg of lipitor. I'm 180 lbs 5'7" 44 yrs old. Heart disease and strokes on immediate family both sides. I've been reading and being told this is a very high dose. Is it dangerous and what do I need to look for.

Hi and thank you for asking HCM!

Yes this is the maximal dose of atorvastatine and has more side effects than low doses of atorvastatine.

I suggest to monitor liver enzymes (transaminases ALT,AST) and muscular enzymes (Creatine phospho Kinase and LDH).

Hope it was of help!
