Intermittent Shoulder Pain. Taken Ibuprofen, Arthritis Cream, Ice Packs

I get a brief deep throbbing pain on the top of my right shoulder. It happens at uneven intervals. Sometimes it will happen 2 or 3 hours apart and last for 3 seconds. Other times it will repeat every 10 minutes. When the intervals of pain are closer together, the pain is more intense. When farther apart it feels more dull. When I touch it while it's throbbing, I can sometimes feel the throbbing with my fingers. I have tried ibuprofen, arthritis cream and ice packs. But it continues to return, usually when I'm up and active or at work.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, it appears that it is the arthritis of the shoulder , i advise you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for diagnosis and treatment . You may need to have MRI. for diagnosis and treatment.
I to my patient with such symptoms prescribe neurotropic injections for 10 consecutive days, and to be continued one injection every week, along with other medicines. Thank you.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

If your pain is associated with movements of the shoulder joint, then it is likely to be soft tissue related either from the muscles, tendons or ligaments.

If your pain is continuous without any relation to the muscle movements , then it is likely to be originating from the underlying bone (Humerus)

A detailed physical examination and appropriate investigations are needed to diagnose your condition.

As the conservative measures have failed to provide pain relief, I suggest you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for further workup and management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
