I Am 5 Weeks Pregnant According To Ultrasound But Measures At 16 Weeks Because Of Genetic Disorder

My daughter says she is 5 weeks pregnant according to ultrasound, but measures at 16 weeks because of a genetic disorder. I am confused because all information I have ever heard is that all fetuses grow at pretty much the same rate or slower if a problem exists but never faster. Any advice? thank you

Hello,
Firstly, the dates could be erratic. Secondly, there should be a detailed investigation before proclaiming any genetic disease as this has an affect on the outlook toward the pregnancy. Lastly, at gestational ages less than 8 weeks it is difficult to detect such genetic defects through size; there is no abnormal growth observed so early. Further comments can be made only if details of the investigations and clinical picture are available. Hope this helps.
