How Will Surgery Wound Heal Faster After Hysterectomy?

I am 5 days post hysterectomy and I am unsure how to best heal. Had laparoscopic surgery and feel a lot of tenderness and a bit uncomfortable. Been mostly just sitting or lying down and getting up for short walks now and then. Don't know how long to just sit and do nothing or should I be trying to do more to heal faster? And if not now, when should I pick up the pace?

Hello and welcome,

Please do not worry so much about wound healing. The superficial wound heals in 7 days and it may take up to 3 months for the stitches inside to get dissolved. However this does not affect your routine activity. After day 3 you can resume your personal care completely if there is no pain and light household work may be resumed after another week or two. Heavy work is to be avoided for 1 1/2 month and also lifting heavy weights is not advised.

Addition of citrus fruits like oranges and lemons to the diet helps in faster wound healing. A balanced diet including proteins like egg white, sprouts, soups and green vegetables as well as 2 fruits a day are needed to help restore lost energy. Also eat short but frequent meals as you are not working much. Small meals are easier to digest.

Walking is fine and continue that. You will be fine and feel better once the lost energy is restored and the system tones up a bit with activity.

My best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Hope this satisfies your query.
