How To Treat Smelly Diarrhea Along With Cramps In Child?

Hello, My three year old daughter has had diarrhea for 4 full days now going poop around 6 times per day and night. She experiences cramping while going poop. Tonight I noticed the smell of her stool resembled that of a public washroom where old pads are discarded, ie rotten menstrual blood.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.
I can understand your concern.

That could be because of infection. Monitor for signs of dehydration.
They include
1. Decreased skin turgor
2. Increasing thirst.
3. Sunken eyes.
4. Irritability.
5. Drowsiness.
6. Decreasing passage of urine.
Oral rehydration solution or any other solution containing salt and sugar should be given.
Probiotics and Zinc prescribed by your doctor will be useful.

Some times antibiotics may be prescribed by your doctor if he suspects dysentery.

In case of further dehydration the child requires Intravenous fluids.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
