How To Treat Cold, cough, tonsil Infection In A 6 Years Old Child?

My 6 yr old son has had a cold and cough for a little over a month now. It started to worsen around Christmas Eve and he woke up with a mild fever which, until today, has been on and off. He has ALWAYS had trouble breathing at night and was diagnosed with allergies about a year ago and allergy-induced asthma as well. I always have to prop him up when he has a cold and sometimes, even when he doesn't have a cold. He has been complaining of a sore throat for several days now and last night, I took a closer look with a flashlight. His tonsils appear to be swollen or enlarged, but I noticed that he also has what looks like craters (indentations) in his tonsils. There wasn't any white spots but there are a few bumps sticking out in the back of his throat and it just doesn't look right to me. After hearing about the 13 yr old girl who is now brain-dead from a tonsilectomy. I fear my son may need to have his tonsils removed and am hopeful there is something I could do for him to help him breathe better while he sleeps, etc. He also snores and has for as long as I can remember. Please help. I am deeply concerned. Thank u.

Pediatrician 's  Response
From history it looks like enlarged adenoids due to allergic rhinitis. U can ask our doctor for x ray neck lat view to see enlarged adenoid.in that case she will benefit from long term course of oral monteleukast and Allegra..if no response then intrnasal corticosteroid.. Last option is adenoidectomy
