Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband and I have been taking Lortab for some time now due to health issues. We decided not to take them anymore and discarded them. We are both going through severe withdrawal. What can we do over the counter to help with this? My husband is going through it worse than I am I think.
Generally hydrocodone withdrawal will begin within 6-12 hours after the last dose. Opioid withdrawal usually peaks within 72 hours and may last from a week to a month. Drug cravings and some of the emotional side effects may even last longer than a month. So, this medication should be stopped slowly by tapering the doses under doctor's supervision to avoid any unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.
Some medications like Buprenorphine which a partial opioid agonist or Naloxone which is an opioid antagonist and buprenorphine combination or methadone which is a long acting opioid or Naltrexone which is an opioid antagonist etc can be used to reduce the sufferings of withdrawal symptoms.
Take care. Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if I can assist you further.
