How To Remove Thick Green Mucus Coating Along With Sore Throat? Relief With Amoxicillin

Hello. I am a 32 year-old male. Generally in good health. About 11 days ago, I came down with an intense sore throat. I saw white spots/ thick green mucus coating the back of my throat. I also was very lethargic and had headaches. I went to my primary doctor who did rapid strep and throat culture check for strep. Both came back negative. The pain got worse in my throat on the weekend, so I went to a local urgent clinic. The doctor there examined me, ordered another rapid strep(which was negative) and did another throat culture ( also negative). She gave me penicillin and told me to rest. No change after two more days, so I went back to my primary doctor office. My regular doctor was unavailable, so I met with his colleague. She examined me, started me on amoxicillin, and told me to discontinue the penicillin. She stated there was a good chance it was viral and I would need to rest. The pain in my throat has subsided quite a bit, and headaches are virtually gone. I am still lethargic. My main concern is I still have these white patches in my throat. They are slightly swollen and cause some pain. My tonsils were removed several years ago. I have rubbed them with a cotton swap and have observed a green, mucus residue transfer from the spots to the swab. What are these spots and what can I do to get them to go away? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hello. it is likely that you have an infection of your throat. the spots are generally small accumulations of pus and will generally resolve when the infection subsides. please continue your amoxicillin and gargle with chlorhexidine mouth wash 3-4 times a day. it will give you relief. thanks
