Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have just been denied spousal life insurance due to a cholesterol of 262. I am 57 years old, 5 4 tall and weigh 158 lbs. I have a history of high cholesterol from both my parents. I know I should lose 15-20 pounds and am trying with exercise and healthy eating. What else can I do? I am not happy about this and would like to control it without medication if possible
Hi thanks for your question. Serum cholesterol of 262 is above the normal value but is not so high that you need to worry about it. Only life style modification can take care of this much cholesterol. Continue with plan you are having in your mind of losing 15 to 20 pounds with dietary modification and regular exercise, that is what called as life style modification. I think with life style modification you may be able to bring your cholesterol to normal value. However there is a small amount of cholesterol which body synthesis daily from the carbohydrate we take ,this amount of the cholesterol needs drug of control. But I am sure you will be able to manage it without drugs. Hope this answers your question
