How To Permanently Treat Recurring Thrush And Bv?

Help I suffer from bv every week and thrush once a month - I use treatments such as BV gel and oral thrush tablets and pessaries but they are only temporary, the infections just come back within a few days. I have tried all sorts of pro biotics, yogurts, cotton underwear, plain washing powder, aqueous cream to wash with instead of shower gel, nothing's doing the trick. I'm spending so much money on treatments for thrush and BV, I can go to the doctor but he just prescribes me 7 days worth of antibiotics which have the same effect as over the counter stuff. My vagina smells of rotten fish, unless I use BV gel the night before then I'm fine. But the moment I don't use it the smell returns. Please help this is ruining my life !!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Any/all recurring infections should always be investigated for some underlying cause which is almost always the main reason for the infections. In such situations, treating the infection becomes symptomatic treatment as the symptoms will exist as long as the condition is present, and so I would advise an elaborate evaluation to find the real cause. Possible conditions can be: uterine prolapse, ureteric stones, kidney stones, kidney infections, pressure from surrounding structures on the ureter or urinary pathway, etc.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
