How To Get Relief From Constipation After Gall Bladder Removal?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...Hi Doctor, I am 39 years old. I had my Gall bladder removed almost a year ago .I used to have severe chest pain because of which I was advised to go for the surgery.I have not had any major problem after the operation except severe chest pain once after I ate something from outside. But the problem that persists is that of constipation. This is one thing I've had since my childhood and it seems to have become even more acute now.Pl advise what to do ?

Hello,
Here you mentioned two different problems
1) Chest pain + habit of eating outside - suggest possibility of GERD with gastritis. In this condition, stomach acid moves upward into esophagus due to weakening of esophagus-stomach junction. This produce inflammation (redness + swelling) of lower part of esophagus.
2) Severe gastritis associated with GERD might be due to H.pylori infection to lower part of stomach from partially prepared/cooked food.
3) Treatment consists of, treatment for acidity, treatment for indigestion (from gastritis), treatment for H.Pylori infection.
4) Chronic constipation has many causes and you must undergo evaluation to find out appropriate cause for it for proper treatment. For evaluation you might require USG abdomen, Colonoscopy.
5) Treatment can be decided based on findings of these tests but you can start/continue stool softener to decrease straining during passing stool.
