What Causes Severe Constipation After Removing The Gall Bladder?

I had my gall bladder removed two years ago. I seem to have had increased constipation since that time. I went to the ER last night, believing I may have a blockage. I was finally able to move my bowels via medication and a CT scan revealed no blockage. Can gall bladder removal cause difficulty with constipation?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Usually gall bladder removal is associated with increased frequency of stools due to direct bile passage from liver to intestine continuously. Constipation is not usual presentation after gall bladder removal and hence possibility of less fiber intake , sedentary life style, lack of exercises and other possibilities must be explored out.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
