How Safe Is Metformin 1000 Mg Dosage In Diabetic Patients?

am a diabetis patient am using 500mg IR metformin tablet daily in monring and evenings
and ER metformin 1000 mg in the afternoon am 45 years old and my sugar not so high before its use yesterdy physiscian prescribed me this shall i use this dosage forms what should i do??

Hello,
Totally you are on 2000 mg of Metformin. IR means immediate release and ER means extended release ( action for 24 hours). This is a decent dose of Metformin and to be frank, if you are using Metformin thrice daily, then there is no great use of using an ER preperation. Instead you can use a plain Metformin.
Metformin is a safe and a very useful drug. But the dose need to be reduced if you have kidney problems. Metformin will not directly harm kidney.
