Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I broke my 11th rib on the left side last December after I took a blow to my side. I also had a ruptured spleen due to the broken rib and underwent emergency surgery December 22, 2012. I still have discomfort on the area of the rib fracture. I can feel it more with certain movements. At times, it feels kind of like a knot in that area. Is this normal and if so, how long will it take for full healing. It is not restricting me. I'm just tired of the nagging discomfort in that area.
Rib fractures usually heal by itself and may take few weeks for it. In your case it has healed but maybe there is malunion, giving you a knot like feeling. This will not harm you except for certain discomfort. You can wait for few months to a year.
