How Long Does It Take For Discharge In Ear To Stop In Otitis Media?
My eleven year old son, weight 43 kilogram is having a watery with a little mixture of bloody discharge from his left air for almost three days now. We consulted the ENT doctor and prescribed as Klavox/Augmentine antibiotics plus garasone ear drops: Klavox 457mg is given every 8 hours for 5ml. Garasone Drops is given 3 drops, 3 times a day. He was given the medicine for two days. The ENT doctor diagnosed my son having an otitis media infection and said that there may be a mild rapture of the eardrum as he could not see it clearly due to too much ear fluid in his ear. The doctor advise to see after 5 days. My questions are if the ear discharge will last for more than one even the medication is given what should i do as i am worried because the doctor advised as to do the medication only. Usually how long the ear discharge will stop? how serious this condition is?. My child had a bilateral grommet tube insertion and adenoidectomy last 6 six years ago he was diagnosed as having an acute otitis media. Until now my son is having a watery fluid discharge for three days...Please help me.. I'm worried I want to understand more about his condtion. Thank you and more power to all of you.
Usually with oral antibiotics and ear drops, the discharge should stop within 7-10 days.
Your son probably had a retracted ear drum in the past due to which grommets were put to equalize the pressure. He will have to follow up with the doctor to see the progress of the retraction.
