How Is Ankylosing Spondylitis Treated?

My son had an MRI on his knee and is showed synovial thickening. He s 18 and has been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis. He s very active and is hoping to play basketball soon. His physician is prescribing him a Medrol dose pack. If that doesn t help, would a cortisone shot be the next course of treatment?

Hello,

The treatment of the ankylosing spondylitis includes:
- Medications such as Adalimumab. It is a prescription medication.
- Steroid shots might help to treat the symptoms.
- Physical therapy
- Surgery
- Exercise is the best treatment for the ankylosing spondylitis at the early stage

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
