Hello,

You are suffering from cough over a month now. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP / ENT, get swab and sputum test done. If needed you will be asked to get X-ray or other imaging tests done. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected and diagnosis made.

Your symptoms are suggestive of dry, progressive cough. Give voice rest. Do not talk. Take sips of water throughout the day. You can keep a cough lozenge in the mouth to keep the mucosa from drying. Use humidifiers so that you are comfortable. Taking antihistamines will help to reduce symptoms of allergy.

Since the cough is chronic, you will need a course of antibiotics like Augmentin or cephalosporins for relieve after consultation with your local doctor. Gargle your throat with warm salt water 2-3 times a day. Take liquid or semi solid diet for a couple of days so that the mucosa of the throat gets time to heal. Avoid coughing too hard.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
