Heavy Periods, Fluttering In The Uterus, Back Pain. Endometriosis?

My uterus has been "f'luttering" for a couple days now. I'm 43 years old, have excruciating periods and been having hot flashed for some years. My dr. just laughs when I mention the menopause word. My periods start out dark brown, then become FULL of clots. Period lasts about 7-9 days, with extreme back pain and what feel like cramps down into my butt/leg area. However, I am usually bothered by PMS symptom for a week before I even start. So for at least half the month I feel extremely lousy, and not much better for the other half. Based on other women's symptoms I've read online, I am thinking I have endometriosis. I think my dr. once told me that usually happened to "younger" women. Now this uterine fluttering has begun and added a whole new symptom for me to ponder over, but I know it is NOT gas. I have had 2 'normal' pelvic ultrasounds in the last 3 yrs. I have 2 children. Can anyone please tell me anything?

Hi,
As per your age, you are in the perimenopausal stage. It is normal for all sorts of menstrual disturbance to be seen at this stage, but any disturbing symptom must be attended to. You would need a trans-vaginal sonogram to have a good view of the uterus and the other pelvic organs. The premenstrual symptoms can be improved by using supplements of vitamin B1 or hormones. Presence of fibroids or ovarian cysts must be ruled out as the cause of this heavy painful bleeding and so is the presence of thyroid disorders. Please contact your gynecologist for further suggestions. Good luck.
