Headache, Sore Throat, Rashes On Fingers, Soles Of Feet. Causes And Cure?

Last Wednesday I came down with a headache (rare), a low fever until the next morning (took 3 advil and went to bed) sore throat then and then a rash started appearing on my fingers and finally the soles of my feet. Headache gone, fever gone but the rash is VERY painful and hard to walk etc. Went to my own doctor who prescribed antibiotics. Feet still very painful. Any ideas as to what it is and what should I do for my feet?

Hello Good Evening,

You might be suffered from Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), which caused by certain types of viruses.

Early symptoms are likely to be fever often followed by a sore throat. Loss of appetite and general malaise may also occur. Between one and two days after the onset of fever, painful sores (lesions) may appear in the mouth or throat, or both. A rash may become evident on the hands, feet, mouth, tongue, inside of the cheeks.

There is no specific treatment for hand, foot and mouth disease. Individual symptoms, such as fever and pain from the sores, may be eased with the use of analgesics.

HFMD is a viral disease that has to run its course, there is no specific treatment, only symptomatic and supportive treatment should be given.
Infection in adults is typically mild and lasts approximately 1 week, occasionally longer. Fever reducers and luke-warm baths can help bring temperature down.

Regards,

Dr. Naresh Jain
