Have Sore Throat And Cough Along With Mucus. No Medication Till Now. What To Do?

I have had a really chesty cough for 4 weeks now, where I cough up green/yellow mucus. In addition to this I have also had a really sore throat, which appears to be getting worse, not better. Just today I noticed that there are a lot of white spots all over the back of my throat. My throat also seems to be more painful at night. Other than a headache, I have not had any other symptoms other than those described and I have not had a fever.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,
A detailed clinical assessment is unavoidable in this case. what you describe is compatible with a bacterial infection. The characteristic presentation of the throat is seen in streptococcal pharyngitis. A physical examination by your doctor is very necessary.
Causes of throat infections not accompanied by fever could involve syphillis in case there is a past history of oral sex and mycoplasma. A throat swab, culture and antibiotic sensitivity test might be useful.
I suggest you consult your family physician for proper evaluation and management.
Thanks and best regards,
Luchuo, MD.
