Have Red Lump In Upper Arm After Getting Pertussis Vaccine. Got Flu And Pneumonia Vaccine. Taking Ibuprofen

I have a large red lump in my upper arm after getting the pertussis vaccine. Got flu vaccine in same arm and pneumonia vaccine in other arm---it was the intramuscular shot that gave me the reaction, I think. This was yesterday about 2 p.m. Redness has grown larger, no rash. Putting cold pacs on it and taking ibuprofen. Should I be worried since it still hurts and is so large?

Hi
Thanks for your query.
Relax,there is nothing to worry.
This local reaction is due to vaccination and will subside in 24to48hours.
Continue with ice compresses and ibuprofen.
In case it persist get yourself examined by doctor to rule out any abscess formation.
Hope this helps.
Take care..

General & Family Physician Dr. Haseena Hamdani's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Redness and swelling are common side effects of Pertusis vaccine. For first 24 hours , we advise to put cold packs. After that we advise to do warm compress. You may continue Brufen 400mg three times in a day for today and tomorrow. After that, you may not need to take brufen, as in majority of cases, rednaess will disappear. usually we do not give two injections in the same arm, specially in same muscle.
