Have Quit Smoking For Some 3 Years. Now Feeling Breathless When Walking, Yawning All Times. Cure For Symptoms?
Hello Dr. Grief. I am a 63 yr old who smoked for 43 years but now 3 yrs smoke free. Lately I have found myself breathless after walking two blocks and have been yawning frequently. I can understand being breathless with my history though it has worsened lately but I don't understand the yawning. I hope you can help me. Thank you.
Since you have been experiencing a worsening of breathlessness of late, you must get yourself evaluated by an internist (general medicine specialist). As you rightly pointed out breathlessness can be a part of long years of smoking, but since there is a recent change in the symptom severity, it may indicate a worsening of the lung disease or a new onset of cardiac problem. Yawning is a non-specific symptom that can indicate a general fatigue due to any cardiac or respiratory disease. Hence it is a good idea to get yourself evaluated at the earliest.
