Have Fever And Headache. Having Blisters On Her Body. Vaccinated For Varicella Twice. What Is The Treatment For Chicken Pox?

My grandaughter had a fever for 2 days and a headache now has blisters on her body. Sounds and looks like chickenpox. She has been vacinated with the varicella twice, should she still be able to have a severe case of chickenpox. She is 5 years old and what is the best treatment? The first ones came up on her little toes. I gave her a dose of benadryl, is that ok to give her.

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Chickenpox may occur in children even vaccinated for it which is known as breakthrough chickenpox.

But in vaccinated children it occurs with less severity.

Clinical examination is important to diagnose the skin blisters as there are other some diseases which will present with similar skin blisters.

For itching you can give benadryl in prescribed dose.

You can apply plain calamine lotion externally over skin for soothing effect.

Ask her not to scratch the lesions and trim her nails.

Consult the doctor for physical examination and treatment.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
