Have Anxiety, Affecting Relationships With Family And Friends. Can A Psychiatrist Help?

hello, my name is monika and I am looking into a psychiatrist to help me through with some anxiety I have had for a few years. I feel that it is getting worse. I feel that I need to be in control of everything and it is starting to effect my relationships with family and friends. Does this sound like something a psychiatrist can help me with?
Thanks,
Monika

Hello Monika,
Perhaps a psychiatrist or psychologist or even Licensed clinical social worker/therapist can help you. Hypnotherapists can be helpful too in reducing your anxiety. Learning to let go of the control can be quite healing and can reduce your anxiety overall. There are some things you can control, some you cannot. And the serenity prayer is a good reminder for that. G-d grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Psychologist Dr. Rachna K Singh's  Response
Hi Monika,

Anxiety or any other illness, whenever occurs not only effects the patient but also effects the patient's environment, relations, work etc. It's like a ripple effect which starts from you and gradually starts impacting those around you as well.

Hence the treatment too, though will start solely from you, you will gradually start noticing a change in your environment too. As you start improving you will notice your relations, work performance etc. too will begin to improve.

In my opinion, you must visit a psychologist/therapist and then only if need be you should take medication. A psychologist will be in a perfect position to identify your symptoms as well as help you deal with your issues- past and present in an effective manner.
