Have A Red Bump On The Upper Lip. Sore, Red, Bleeds. Hurting & Tingling. Have Tiny White Spots In Clusters. Herpes?

Yesterday, I developed a red "bump" on the left side of my upper lip. It was a little sore, red and seemed to "bleed". I thought it was most likely chapped dry lips. However, today afternoon it started hurting and tingling. Also, I noticed tiny white spots in clusters on my upper lip. The part of the upper lip that meets the lower lip looks discolored and you can see the white spots on stretching it out. I totally freaked out thinking they were cold sores or Herpes! I don't know how I could've got them! Ive not had ANY sexual contact in 3 years! Back then also, I was in a monogamous relationship. I haven't kissed anyone or been kissed in more than 2 years. How then could've I got it? The only thing I can recall was a colleague hugging me and her cheeks brushing against mine. This happened just a day before I got the "red bump". However, my colleague looked perfectly fine and I couldn't see any visible sores or anything of the sort on her mouth. Besides I never really came in contact with her saliva. How then could I have developed these cold sores?
I visited the doctor and he prescribed "Acyclovir" tablet, Calcevita and a jojoba oil gel for local application. Is it really herpes? I'm totally freaking out as I never had cold sores before and I don't know how I could've got it now!

Hi,

You can get herpes from blood transfusions as well and very rarely from sharing food. You can also get it from sharing straws or any instance where some fluid might be exchanged. These are rare scenarios. There is a very good news for you though. I recommend that you get a tzanc smear done.

This is used to diagnose herpes and is confirmatory. Other possibilities might be that you have chicken pox or some other disease. I hope this helps.
