Have Thoracic Outlet Compression, Cervical Ribs, Lost Pulse, Have Tingling Sensation. Done MRI. Fear Thrombosis?

I was diagnosed on an MRI and x-rays as having TOC (not sure of what type) due to having two cervical ribs and my family doc tells me it's usual to have cervical rib resections. I only have mild symptoms of lost pulse, tingling, and slight hand withering in my left hand. Have heard that surgery is very risky, could damage vital nerves and veins, brachial complex, so on. My grandmother has a withering left arm that got worst as she got older but she dealt with it really well. Is the presence of cervical ribs a trait that runs in families? My mom likely had it as she had slight symptoms too. I'm otherwise in very good health, active, 57 y.o. female, 66 inches tall, 145 lbs. My main concern is detecting an thrombosis that might be hiding out in there. Thank you.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Any surgery carries its own risk of developing complications which will be very less when compared to the benefits it offer. So, you have to consider the Benefit-risk ratio.

There is no evidence based data to suggest that Cervical rib condition runs in families.

If you are concerned about the presence of a thrombus, I suggest you to undergo a Doppler ultrasound which is a non-invasive procedure and concludes the presence of a bloot clot (if it is there).

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
