Have Mirena IUD Placed. Had Sex. Having Abdominal Cramps, Frequent Urination, Nauseous. Pregnant?

1.do you still ovulate when you have the Mirena IUD placed?
2.how long after having intercourse on the Mirena and the pull out method, would a pregnancy test be accurately have the correct results?
I only recently had intercourse on 6/27, 6/28, & 6/30, but since then i have noticed several mornings where i have been extremely nausea, one morning with vomiting, some slight lower abdominal pains, frequency urination, that foods that i did not like 2 weeks ago are suddenly are good, and even though i might be nausea's i still want something to eat, and that I have been a little more emotional than normal, and because I have started to notice these things it started me thinking, and started the concern that I wouldn't have any clue on if I could or am possible pregnant because i have no clue of when I would be ovulating, or if/when I could possible be pregnant. and i have no clue on what to do or how to figure this out.

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M.Forum.
Failure rate in Mirena I U D is only 0.2%, if properly inserted by a qualified person.
Now, it is not possible to say that you are pregnant or not.
If you have any doubt that then please get in home pregnancy test .
However the symptoms , which , you mentioned in your query relates to pregnancy.
1 You can ovulate in spite of I U D insertion.
2 Usually one week after intercourse you can get pregnancy test and its results are correct.
Good luck.

Hi,
If your Minera is in not displaced/ it has not crossed its expiry period- Its unlikely that you have conceived. Please get consultation for excluding urine problem/acidity.
The information you asked for is as below-
1. yes, ovulation takes place inspite of Minera . Minera works by avoiding implantation of fertilized ovum in uterus.
2.The pregnancy test can be urine or blood tests.
Blood test is +ve after 7 to 12 days of probable conception.
Urine test is +ve after 2 weeks of probable conception.
3. the ovulation occure approximately 14 days before the expected date of mences.

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

1. Yes, you still ovulate with the Mirena IUD in place
2. If you conceived, a urine test will turn positive about 2-3 weeks later

While no birth control is 100% effective, the Mirena IUD is extremely effective. These symptoms are likely related to your cycle, but a pregnancy test is indicated now and again in 2-3 weeks.

I hope that this helps and good luck!

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

Mirena is a intra uterine device containing hormones with in it, hormone released from device acts locally in the uterus.its action of contraception is by following methods.
Cervical mucus thickens
Sperm's survival and ability to penetrate the egg is inhibited.
Endometrium is suppressed
In some women, ovulation is inhibited.
Failure rates with this contraceptive method is less than 0.7%. very effective contraception.
Frequent urination could be due to UTI, get urine routine and urine culture done.
Usually UPT becomes positive by 2 to 3 weeks of conception.
Consult your doctor for examination and management.
Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take
care.

Regards
Dr. Vidya

hi,
thank you for using health care magic
1. no ovulation does not occur with mirena.. it has levonogestrol which prevents ovulation
2.well i would like to know when did you got IUD inserted? because symptoms which you are telling can be because of IUD.. abdominal pain, bleeding , nausea vommiting can occur till few months after insertion of IUD, it is its side effect

if you want to be sure about pregnancy take a test.. if it is negative at present repaeat it after 7 to10 days because in initial day it can be false negative and its not reliable.. if test comes positive consult gynecologist ..
