Have Endometriosis. Struggled With Infertility. Had Severe Side Effects With Lupron Shots. How To Relieve Pain During Intercourse?

I have Endometriosis. I am 32 years old and just had my first child a year ago after struggling with infertility. My endometriosis seems worse than ever now. I have already had 4 surgeries to remove lesions from the endo, including a laproscopic uteral nerve ablation. I have tried Lupron shots but the side effects were terrible. Anyways, I want to try and have another child, and then maybe get the hysterectomy. But the pain with intercourse is so BAD! I have severe cramps and diahrrea the day after intercourse. The actual deed itself hurts so bad I try not to cry. Is there anything that can be done to help me with pain until I get pregnant again? The endo pain virtually disappeared during my pregnancy. I don t want to be on a narcotic drug for this. The doctors around here won t prescribe them anyways. They tell me to take Tylenol. This disease is ruining my life (intimate life especially!)

Hello ma'am and welcome.

I am extremely sorry to hear this and unfortunately the condition can be quite troubling and frustrating as well.

Unfortunately, the most effective treatment for endometriosis is considered to be hysterectomy, but as you have not completed your family life yet, we can only try other treatment options like a D&C, ablation, hormone correction therapy, etc. All these are not as effective and only temporary treatment options.

I understand that the pain can get really intense, but if doctors target complete pain management, that would require narcotics (due to the level of pain), which as you yourself know, they avoid. Tylenol is mild and may not help much, but this is your only option.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
